Verity for beauty stores

The shade she wanted was out of stock, and the expiring one was at the front. Verity tracks both.

A multi-brand beauty store sells hundreds of shades from dozens of brands, run by advisors who half belong to the brand and half to you. The money leaks through shades that run out, products that near their date, tester use nobody counts and brand schemes that are never claimed. Verity keeps those in one record so you can act before the loss.

Verity in one line

One system that knows every shade and batch on the shelf, every advisor and brand target, every customer's profile and every rupee a brand owes you.

Free: we set up a working demo of your own business, on your own data, within 7 days. You pay only if your team decides to use it.

The bill and the brand delivery you already process become the records everything else reads from.

Watch

Verity in retail and commerce

Shelf counts, billing and stock, shown the way a store lives them.

35 seconds, no sound. An illustrative film, so the scenes are examples, not customer results.

How it runs today

The store looks glamorous. The back room is a spreadsheet and a bag of testers.

A beauty store lives on depth: ten lipstick shades per brand, twenty foundation tones, three sizes of the same serum. A customer who cannot find her shade rarely buys a substitute, and the sale leaves with her. Meanwhile, products have use-before dates, brands run schemes, and every counter has an advisor who is paid partly by the brand and partly by you.

The information that matters sits in separate places: the billing system holds what sold, the brand reps hold what is owed, the advisors hold what the customers like, and the batch and expiry data are on the packs themselves. The owner or store manager is the only link between them.

Competition from marketplaces and quick-delivery apps is real and growing. What a store can still do better is advice, trials and relationships, and those are exactly the things that are not recorded. The business that wins is the one that remembers each customer and never lets the right shade run out.

What most beauty stores run on

  • Billing software
  • Brand scheme sheets and emails
  • Advisor targets on paper or WhatsApp
  • Excel stock and expiry list
  • Advisors' memory of customers

Each of these works for its own job. None of them tell you that the shade 220 foundation sold out on Saturday and the serum at the front expires in six weeks.

14 problems, one by one

Where a beauty store actually loses money.

These are the situations beauty store owners and managers describe again and again. For each: what it looks like on an ordinary day, what it costs, and what Verity does about it.

  1. 01Stock

The popular shades run out and the substitute is never as good

    What it looks like

Foundation shade 220 and the medium rose lipstick sell fast across the weekend. By Monday they are gone and the next delivery is nine days away. Customers who came for them buy nothing, or buy from the app on their phone while standing in your shop.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: if the ten fastest shades are out of stock for five days a month and each would have sold 4 units a day at ₹900, that is about ₹1.8 lakh of sales missed in one month.

    How Verity fixes it

Stock is held by shade and size, with sales rate and reorder level for each. Verity lists items about to run out with the days left and the supplier's usual lead time, so the order is raised before the gap.

    See the screen
  2. 02Stock

Expiry dates are found on the shelf, not in a report

    What it looks like

A batch of serum has a use-before date of next month. It has been at the back of the shelf for a year because newer stock was placed in front. A customer notices before the manager does.

    What it costs you

A product on sale after its date creates a complaint, a refund and, in a serious case, a regulatory problem. Stock that is marked down too late is stock that is written off.

    How Verity fixes it

Each batch is recorded with its use-before month. Verity lists batches by date, shows what to sell first, flags those inside your warning window and records the markdown or return to the brand that you decide.

    See the screen
  3. 03Stock

Testers and samples disappear or are used up without a count

    What it looks like

Each brand gives testers, and customers try a lipstick at the counter. Some testers go home in a handbag, some are used by staff, and some are opened and then sold as new stock.

    What it costs you

Beyond the product itself, a used tester sold as new is a hygiene complaint waiting to happen. Brand teams also ask to see tester use before they agree to replace them.

    How Verity fixes it

Testers are held as a separate stock line per brand with the issue date and the person responsible. Verity shows usage and age, so replacements are requested in time and expired testers are retired.

    See the screen
  4. 04People

Advisors push the brand that pays them, and take their customers when they go

    What it looks like

A brand-paid advisor recommends her own range even when another suits the customer better. An experienced store advisor leaves for a competing store and half her regulars follow her there.

    What it costs you

Customers who feel pushed do not return, and a regular who follows an advisor takes lifetime value out of your store. Staff attrition in retail adds hiring and training cost each time.

    How Verity fixes it

Every sale is recorded against the advisor and the brand. Customer profiles belong to the store, not to one person's phone. Verity shows each advisor's sales by brand, repeat customers and add-on rate, and reassigns clients in one step when someone leaves.

    See the screen
  5. 05People

Incentive and target tracking is kept by hand in several versions

    What it looks like

Brand A pays a slab on monthly sales. Brand B pays a bonus for a launch product. Your own team has a store target. The manager updates three sheets and the numbers differ at month end.

    What it costs you

Hours of manager time each month, plus disputes. If advisors do not trust the numbers, they stop caring about the targets.

    How Verity fixes it

Because each sale is attached to a person, brand and product, Verity builds monthly statements from the targets you set. Each advisor sees the same breakdown as the manager.

    See the screen
  6. 06Suppliers

Brand schemes, margin support and returns are never fully claimed

    What it looks like

A brand promises a markdown support of 10% on a festive range, and credit for unsold gift sets. The scheme lives in an email. Three months later no one can say how many units qualified or whether the brand paid.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: ₹4 lakh of scheme-eligible sales at 10% support is ₹40,000, and it is lost if the claim window closes. Across a few brands this adds up to a real annual figure.

    How Verity fixes it

Each scheme is a record with its terms, dates and rules. Verity counts qualifying sales and returns, shows the amount due from the brand and creates a claim task before the window ends. Payment received is recorded against it.

    See the screen
  7. 07Customers

A skin type, shade and past purchase live only in the advisor's head

    What it looks like

A customer comes for a refill of the serum she bought in July. The advisor who helped her is off today. The new advisor has no idea of her skin type, her shade or what she did not like.

    What it costs you

Beauty is a repeat business. If every visit starts from zero, the store is a shelf and not a service, and customers find the same products cheaper online.

    How Verity fixes it

The customer record holds skin type, shade, concerns, allergies, past products and what she said about them. Whoever serves her sees it, and Verity shows when products she bought are likely to be running out.

    See the screen
  8. 08Customers

Regular products run out at home, and nobody calls before she buys elsewhere

    What it looks like

A 50 ml cleanser lasts about six weeks. At week seven, she orders it on an app with a coupon. The store never learned she needed it.

    What it costs you

Replenishment sales are the most predictable revenue a beauty store has. Losing them to a coupon is a loss of margin on a customer you already won.

    How Verity fixes it

Verity learns each customer's usual replenishment gap per product from purchases. Customers due to run out appear on a list with the advisor who served them, and a follow-up task goes to that advisor.

    See the screen
  9. 09Customers

Opened products come back and cannot be resold

    What it looks like

A customer returns a half-used foundation because it did not suit her. Another reports a reaction to a new cream. Staff are unsure whether to refund, exchange or take it back at all.

    What it costs you

Hygiene rules make opened products unsellable, so the whole cost lands on you unless the brand agrees to take it back. A reaction also carries a safety duty.

    How Verity fixes it

Returns are recorded against the original sale, product batch and reason. Reactions are flagged on the customer profile and linked to the batch, and Verity assembles the list to send to the brand for credit.

    See the screen
  10. 10Stock

Grey market and counterfeit stock creep in through cheap supply

    What it looks like

A distributor offers a prestige fragrance at 30% below the usual price. The pack looks right. If the batch code does not match what the brand shipped, you cannot tell and neither can the customer.

    What it costs you

India's consumer affairs secretary said in April 2026 that counterfeiting and expiry date manipulation are still widespread and that expired goods are being relabelled. A store caught selling fakes loses customers fast.

    How Verity fixes it

Every receipt is recorded with supplier, invoice and batch, and products carry their source. If a batch is questioned, you can see which supplier it came from, which customers bought it and pull the rest from the shelf.

    See the screen
  11. 11Stock

Small, high-value items leave without being paid for

    What it looks like

Lipsticks, compacts and travel-size perfumes are easy to pocket. The annual stock count shows a gap, but nobody can say where it opened.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: shrinkage of 1% on ₹60 lakh of yearly sales is ₹60,000, and it is rarely found without daily counts.

    How Verity fixes it

Counts are done by brand and shelf on a rotating plan, and differences are recorded against the shelf and shift. Verity shows where gaps cluster, so the cause becomes visible.

    See the screen
  12. 12Buying

Launches and festive gift sets are bought on enthusiasm and left in the store room

    What it looks like

A brand pushes a Diwali gift set. You take 80 because the rep is persuasive. After the festival, 50 remain, and the set will not sell at full price again.

    What it costs you

Seasonal sets are the highest-risk buy in the store, with tied-up cash and a hard stop on selling time.

    How Verity fixes it

Last year's sell-through by brand and set is shown when you place the buy. Verity tracks the festive window sales against stock, and flags in time for a markdown or a return under the brand's scheme.

    See the screen
  13. 13Owner

Rent and staff cost per store is unclear, so a weak store hides inside the average

    What it looks like

Three stores report combined sales. One is strong, one is steady, one is losing money. Without a per-store view of sales per advisor and stock turn, you find out after a year.

    What it costs you

A weak store continues to absorb stock, rent and staff time that a strong store could use better.

    How Verity fixes it

Each store is a location in one system. Sales, advisor productivity, stock age and expiry risk are compared side by side, and stock can be moved between stores against a recorded transfer.

    See the screen
  14. 14Money

Distributor credit, post-dated cheques and brand payments are scattered

    What it looks like

You owe one distributor 45 days, another is on advance, and a brand owes you a scheme amount. Cheques are post-dated and sit in a drawer. Nobody knows the net position with each supplier.

    What it costs you

Late payments hurt supply, and unclaimed money is a hidden cost. Cash gets tight just before the festive season when you need to buy.

    How Verity fixes it

Each supplier shows what you owe, what they owe you and the dates. Verity lists payments due this week and the money coming from schemes and returns, so the festive buy is planned against real cash.

From published sources, with the source named under each figure. Your own numbers will differ, and showing you yours is the first thing Verity does.

Growth and quick commerce figures come from reports of research houses, as quoted by a trade publication, and cover the whole market and not stores like yours. The enforcement remarks are not specific to beauty. They show the scale, not what your store will see.

How we work with you

We set it up with you, in four weeks.

You do not get a login and a manual. We learn how your store buys, sells and advises, set Verity up around it, move your data across and then stay on.

  1. Week 1

    Discovery and mapping

    What we do
Spend a day in the store. Watch how a shade is sold, a batch is received, an advisor is paid and a scheme is claimed, and see how each is recorded now.
    What we need from you
Two to three hours from you and an hour from the store manager. Your brand list, scheme documents and stock sheet.
What you have at the end
A written map of your brands, advisors, stores, schemes and the ranked list of problems we start with.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3

    Configuration

    What we do
Set up your product list by shade and size, batch and expiry fields, advisor targets and incentive rules, scheme terms, tester lines and store locations, and build the screens above.
    What we need from you
Check the item list and the incentive rules on a past month. Tell us where we misread a scheme.
What you have at the end
A working Verity holding your brands, advisors, schemes and rules, ready for your data.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4

    Migration and training

    What we do
Bring in stock with batches, customer lists with purchase history, open schemes and supplier balances. Train advisors and managers on live bills, not slides.
    What we need from you
Your stock sheet, customer list and scheme papers in whatever form they exist. One hour with each team.
What you have at the end
Your shades, batches, customers and schemes inside Verity, and a team that has used it on real sales.
  4. After go-live

    Operations partnership

    What we do
Stay on through the next festive buy. Review the shade shortages and claim lists with you and adjust when a brand changes terms or you open another store.
    What we need from you
A monthly review of shades, expiry and brand claims.
What you have at the end
A system that keeps pace with your brands and stores, with someone responsible for it.

Bring these on day one

  • Your brand list with margin and scheme terms
  • Your product list by shade and size, with costs
  • Advisor lists with targets and incentive rules
  • Your customer list, even if it is only a register
  • Your supplier balances and any post-dated cheques

Your time

About 9 to 12 hours of your own time across the four weeks, mostly in week 1. Your store manager and a senior advisor need a few more.

After go-live

Nobody is hired to run Verity. Sales are recorded from the bill you already make, and the stock, advisor and brand views come from those records.

Verity AI

Ask your store a question. Get an answer, not a report to build.

Verity AI reads your own sales, stock, customer and scheme records. Ask in plain language, then turn the answer into tasks for the right people.

  • Your records only Answers come from your own beauty stores data, not from generic knowledge.
  • Right person, right view It only shows what the person asking is allowed to see.
  • Turns into action An answer can become a task assigned to a named person.

Verity / Ask

Which batches expire in the next 60 days, and where are they?

9 batches, 214 units, ₹1.3 lakh at cost. 5 batches are in Thane.

  • Linking Road2 batches
  • Andheri West2 batches
  • Thane5 batches

Create markdown and transfer tasks

Verity / Ask

Which customers are due to run out of their cleanser?

38 customers bought a cleanser six to seven weeks ago and have not been back. 12 spent over ₹20,000 last year.

Assign calls to their usual advisors

Verity / Ask

How much do brands owe us for schemes and returns?

₹86,400 across four brands. ₹31,000 has a claim window closing in six days.

  • Brand C₹21,100
  • Brand A₹14,300
  • Brand D₹4,600

Rules and paperwork

The rules a beauty store has to keep up with.

Verity does not give legal or tax advice and does not file anything for you. It keeps the records these rules lean on in order, so your accountant is not rebuilding them from a bill book.

  • Cosmetics Rules, 2020 and the 2025 amendment

    What is expected

Cosmetics sold in India fall under the Cosmetics Rules, 2020. A 2025 amendment published on 31 July 2025 defines "use before" as before the first day of the labelled month and "expiry date" as the last day of that month. Labels generally need batch details and a date, with exceptions for very small packs.

    How Verity helps

Batch and use-before month are recorded at receiving and kept against each batch, so a product past its date is listed before it reaches a customer.

    ChemLinked on the 2025 amendments

  • GST on cosmetics and personal care

    What is expected

From 22 September 2025 hair oil, shampoo, toilet soap, face powder and talcum powder generally moved to 5%, while face creams, sunscreen, moisturising lotions and lip balms stay at 18%. Other items differ, so each product needs its own check.

    How Verity helps

Each product carries its tax category, so the split on a bill and in the month is clean for your accountant.

Khaitan & Co on GST rate changes

  • Genuine stock and traceable supply

    What is expected

Counterfeits and relabelled expired products are a continuing problem in India, according to the Consumer Affairs Secretary in April 2026. Buying from authorised distributors and keeping invoices is your best protection.

    How Verity helps

Every receipt is recorded with supplier, invoice and batch, so a questioned batch can be traced and pulled.

EU IP Helpdesk, 11 April 2026

  • Customer data and consent

    What is expected

Skin details, phone numbers and photos about customers are personal data. India's data protection rules were notified in November 2025, with most duties applying over the following 12 to 18 months.

    How Verity helps

Customer profiles sit in one permissioned place, with who viewed or changed each one recorded, instead of in advisors' phones.

Rules change and differ by state and by product. Confirm current requirements with your accountant or the relevant authority.

Who sees what

Everyone sees the same records, through their own window.

A brand advisor should not see other brands' sales. A new hire should not see cost prices. Each role opens on what it needs.

  • Owner

Which brands, stores and advisors are earning, and which are not?

Sales by brand and store, stock age, expiry risk, scheme dues and every store side by side.

  • Store manager

    What needs sorting today?

Shades short, batches near date, approvals, advisor targets and tasks due.

  • Beauty advisor

    What does this customer need?

Customer profile, past products, replenishment due, and own sales and incentive.

  • Buyer

What should I order and from whom?

Sell-through, lead times, last season's festive results and scheme terms.

  • Accountant

What came in and what is owed?

Sales by tax category, supplier payables, scheme claims and credit notes.

Questions

Questions beauty store owners ask.

Will my advisors actually enter customer details?

It only works if details are captured at the bill, so we keep it to a few fields and build it into the flow they already follow. Advisors get something back: the customer profile, replenishment list and their own scorecard.

Does Verity manage batches and expiry?

Yes. Batch and use-before month are recorded when stock is received. Verity lists batches by date and shows what to sell first, but it does not change your billing software.

Can it handle brand-paid advisors alongside my own?

Yes. Each advisor has a brand tag and their own targets. Brand-paid advisors appear in the same sales view, and you can limit what each can see.

Can it track brand schemes and returns for credit?

Yes. A scheme is a record with its terms and dates. Verity counts qualifying sales, shows the amount due and creates a claim task before the window closes. Returns for credit are listed per brand.

Does it message my customers when a product is running out?

Not by itself. Verity builds the list of who is due and assigns the follow-up to their usual advisor, who calls or sends the message. The outcome is then recorded.

Does it connect to my online store or the delivery apps?

Verity does not run an online store. During setup we agree how sales from any channel you use reach Verity, so stock and customer records stay complete.

Can I see all my stores together?

Yes. Each store is a location in one system. A customer is the same person across stores, and sales, advisor productivity, stock age and expiry risk can be compared side by side.

Who can see my margins and costs?

Only the people you allow. Access is set by role, so advisors see selling prices and their own results while cost prices and scheme terms stay with you and the buyer. Every change is recorded.

What does it cost?

It depends on the number of stores, advisors and what you want set up. Message us and we will give you a clear number after a short conversation about how your store runs.
