Verity for jewellery stores

A jeweller sells gold by the gram. The profit hides in the milligrams and the minutes.

A jewellery shop holds lakhs of rupees in small, shiny, easy to lose things. Gold rate moves through the day, old gold comes in at a different purity from what the customer says, a piece goes to the karigar and comes back lighter, a scheme customer pays the tenth instalment and nobody remembers the first nine. Verity keeps one record for every piece, every gram and every customer, so the loss shows up while it is small.

Verity in one line

One system that knows every tag, every gram with every karigar, every old gold exchange and every savings customer, and tells you what needs attention before the shop closes.

Free: we set up a working demo of your own business, on your own data, within 7 days. You pay only if your team decides to use it.

Built for a counter that cannot stop to type. The records come from the weighing, valuing and handing over you already do.

Verity in retail and commerce

How it runs today

Most jewellery shops can say what the gold rate is. Fewer can say where every gram is right now.

The showcase is easy to see. The ring at the front, the wedding set in the vault, the necklace on trial. What is hard to see is everything behind it: how many grams sit with karigars, what the old gold bought this month really assayed at, which designs have not moved in a year, and which scheme customers are due this week.

That information exists in pieces. The billing software knows what was sold. The stock register is a book or a sheet. Karigar issue slips are on paper. Scheme instalments are in a ledger. The owner, who is often also the buyer and the closer, holds the rest in memory.

Gold prices have been at record highs. The World Gold Council reported India's jewellery demand at 430.5 tonnes in 2025, down 24% from the year before. When fewer grams sell at a higher price, each gram of loss, each stuck design and each unpaid instalment matters more.

What most jewellery stores run on

  • Billing software at the counter
  • A stock register or Excel sheet
  • Paper issue and receipt slips for karigars
  • A scheme ledger or card
  • WhatsApp groups with customers and karigars

Each one does its own job. None of them agree on how many grams you actually hold.

14 problems, one by one

Where a jewellery shop actually loses money.

These are the situations jewellers describe again and again. For each one: what it looks like on an ordinary day, what it costs, and what Verity does about it.

  1. 01Pricing

    Quotes at yesterday's gold rate

    What it looks like

The rate changed at 11 am. A customer was quoted at 10:30, comes back at 4 pm for a necklace and expects the old number. A new salesperson works from a rate that was updated twice on the counter board and once by phone.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: on a 40 gram chain, a rate gap of ₹300 a gram is ₹12,000 given away or a sale lost. Over a month of small mismatches, that is real money with no name on it.

    How Verity fixes it

The day's rate is one record, changed by one person with the time stamped. Estimates take the rate and the making charge from it, and an estimate older than a limit you set is marked stale before it is turned into a sale.

    See the screen
  2. 02Pricing

Making charges discounted at the counter with no trail

    What it looks like

A regular asks for less on making. The salesperson says yes to keep the sale. Another customer, on the same design, gets a different number the next day.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: on a ₹3 lakh sale with making at 12%, a two point discount is ₹6,000. Ten such sales a month is ₹60,000 that nobody approved.

    How Verity fixes it

Each estimate carries the making charge, the wastage and the discount asked. Above your limit it goes to the owner or manager for one tap approval with a reason, and the month's discounts are totalled by person and by design.

    See the screen
  3. 03Old gold

Old gold exchange, with a purity dispute at the counter

    What it looks like

A customer brings a chain and says it is 22 carat. The test says 20. Another brings broken pieces and wants a higher rate than the day's. The deduction for impurity and melting is argued out in the shop, and each salesperson settles it differently.

    What it costs you

Old gold exchange is a growing share of how jewellers get gold, so each wrong purity call becomes a direct loss or an angry customer. Example arithmetic: 50 grams valued at 22 carat that tests at 20 carat is a gap of about 4 grams of fine gold, which at ₹8,000 a gram is ₹32,000.

    How Verity fixes it

Every exchange is a record: weight, test reading, agreed purity, rate used, deduction and who approved it. The customer's name and ID details sit on the record and the value is carried to the new bill as a credit.

    See the screen
  4. 04Old gold

Old gold sits in a drawer and nobody can say what it is worth

    What it looks like

Exchanged pieces collect in a tray. Some are melted, some are sent to a refiner, some are sold on. At month end the book says 600 grams of old gold, the tray says 540.

    What it costs you

Gold with no record is gold that can leave unnoticed. Example arithmetic: 60 grams short at ₹8,000 a gram is ₹4.8 lakh.

    How Verity fixes it

Old gold lots are records with a status: received, held, sent to refiner, returned as fine gold. Verity compares what was received with what came back from the refiner and flags the shortfall by lot.

    See the screen
  5. 05Stock

The tag stock never matches the book

    What it looks like

Close of day. The sheet says 1,240 tagged pieces, the trays hold 1,236. Two are with a customer on approval and nobody noted it. One is a ring that was sold, billed, and still shows on the shelf list.

    What it costs you

A piece missing is a loss of lakhs, and a daily reconcile that takes an hour from your best salesperson is an hour not spent selling.

    How Verity fixes it

Every piece is a record with its tag number, gross and net weight, and a state: in showcase, in vault, on approval, sold. Taking a piece out on approval is a two tap entry with the customer's name and a return time. The close-of-day count compares trays to the record and lists only the pieces that differ.

    See the screen
  6. 06Compliance

Hallmark and HUID records that do not match the piece

    What it looks like

A bangle is billed as 22 carat but the HUID on the piece belongs to another item. A batch from the supplier arrives without the hallmark details written down. A customer checks the HUID on their phone and finds a mismatch.

    What it costs you

Mandatory hallmarking has applied in 380 districts since 2 March 2026, and the Bureau of Indian Standards runs the HUID check for buyers. A mismatch is a complaint, a fine risk and a customer who tells others.

    How Verity fixes it

Each hallmarked piece stores its HUID, purity and tag. Verity flags pieces that show in stock without a HUID where one is required, and checks the HUID on the bill against the piece before the sale is closed.

    See the screen
  7. 07Stock

Designs that sit for a year while the gold in them could be working

    What it looks like

A heavy antique set was bought two years ago and still sits in the vault. A light daily wear range sold out in a month and you reordered late. Buying follows what the owner liked, not what sold.

    What it costs you

Gold stuck in slow designs is cash that is not available and exposed to the rate. Example arithmetic: ₹25 lakh in designs that have not sold in 12 months, at an 8% yearly cost of money, is ₹2 lakh a year.

    How Verity fixes it

Sell-through by design, weight band and age is calculated from the tag records. The slow list shows what to melt, rework or discount, and the fast list shows what to restock before it runs out.

    See the screen
  8. 08Karigars

Gold goes to the karigar and comes back lighter

    What it looks like

120 grams issued for a necklace. 112 grams of finished work returns, plus 4 grams of scrap. The slip says 3 grams allowed as wastage. The difference is argued from memory a month later.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: a gap of 1 gram a job across 40 jobs a month is 40 grams, about ₹3.2 lakh at ₹8,000 a gram. Gold held by karigars that is not clearly on your books is also a problem when records are checked.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job records gold issued, finished weight, scrap returned and wastage allowed. Verity shows gold held by each karigar at any time and flags a job whose loss goes beyond the agreed wastage.

    See the screen
  9. 09Karigars

Custom orders that miss the date

    What it looks like

A bride's family orders a set for a wedding on 14 November. The design is approved on WhatsApp, the advance is in the book, the karigar is busy with another order. Nobody checks until the week before.

    What it costs you

A missed wedding date is a lost customer and a story told to every relative. Advances taken with no tracking are also liabilities that are easy to forget.

    How Verity fixes it

Every order is a record with the design reference, weight estimate, advance, due date and the karigar. Orders at risk show on the board as the date nears, and the customer's fitting or pick up is a scheduled task.

    See the screen
  10. 10Schemes

    Savings scheme instalments on paper

    What it looks like

A customer pays ₹5,000 a month for eleven months in a scheme ledger. One card is lost. Another customer says she paid in June. The bonus month is promised in different words by different staff.

    What it costs you

A scheme is a promise and a liability. Disputes are costly in goodwill, and in the past, regulators have looked at such schemes. The rules for companies in this area were tightened as far back as 2014.

    How Verity fixes it

Each scheme member is a record with every instalment, the due date, the bonus rule and the maturity date. Verity lists members who missed an instalment, those who mature this month, and the total held against the scheme.

    See the screen
  11. 11Customers

Birthdays, anniversaries and regulars that nobody remembers

    What it looks like

A family bought a mangalsutra five years ago. Their daughter is getting married. Nobody at the shop knows, and they go to the newer showroom across town.

    What it costs you

Jewellery buying is tied to occasions and families. A shop that remembers wins the next purchase, and one that does not loses it quietly.

    How Verity fixes it

Customers carry family members, past purchases, important dates and the salesperson who knows them. Verity lists upcoming occasions and customers who have not visited past their usual gap, and gives the task to the right person. Staff make the call.

    See the screen
  12. 12Compliance

Large cash sales and ID records scattered

    What it looks like

A customer pays a large amount in cash for a set. The PAN is on a photocopy in one file, the Aadhaar number on a slip in another, and the exchange value in the billing software only.

    What it costs you

Large cash dealings come with record and reporting duties, and the records are asked for when an officer or auditor visits. Hunting for them costs days.

    How Verity fixes it

Each large sale or exchange is linked to the customer record with the ID details and the payment mode. Verity flags sales above the limit you set so the right details are captured while the customer is still at the counter.

    See the screen
  13. 13Money

Money locked in stock, loans and metal loans

    What it looks like

Gold is up and the vault is worth more than last year, but the cash account is thin. A gold loan from the bank has an interest date. Some stock was bought on credit from a wholesaler with a due date.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: ₹2 crore of stock funded at a 10% yearly cost is ₹20 lakh a year, whether or not the stock sells.

    How Verity fixes it

Stock value by design age, supplier payments due and loan dates sit on one screen. The owner sees how much money is tied up in slow stock against what is due in the next 30 days.

    See the screen
  14. 14Owner

More than one showroom and no common picture

    What it looks like

The second showroom reports by phone at night. A piece moved between showrooms is on paper at one end and nowhere at the other. Salespeople at one showroom sell a design the other has more of.

    What it costs you

Pieces in transit are the easiest to lose. Without side by side numbers, you cannot say which showroom earns more per gram of stock.

    How Verity fixes it

Showrooms are locations in one system. A transfer is a record that must be received at the other end. Sales, stock age, exchange and scheme numbers show side by side, and every morning a short list shows what needs a decision.

    See the screen

An ordinary day

The same Saturday, before and after.

What changes is not the gold. It is that the day leaves a record, and the record does the chasing.

WhenTodayWith Verity
10:30 TodayA customer asks for the rate. Three people give three answers. With VerityOne rate with a time stamp is shown on every screen, and estimates older than your limit are marked stale.
12:00 TodayOld gold comes in and the purity is argued over at the counter. With VerityThe test reading, agreed purity and deduction are entered on one record, and the owner approves anything outside your limit with one tap.
2:00 TodayA salesperson gives a two point discount on making to close the sale. With VerityThe request goes for approval with a reason, and the decision shows on the estimate.
5:00 TodayA bangle pair is taken home on approval. Nobody writes it down. With VerityThe piece is marked on approval with the customer's name and a return time.
8:30 TodayClosing means an hour of counting trays against a sheet. With VerityVerity lists the two pieces that differ and the owner decides.
Month end TodayThe accountant asks for the gold register, exchange details and scheme collections. They are in four places. With VerityEach is a record, already linked to the right customer, piece or karigar.

How we work with you

We set it up with you, in four weeks.

You do not get a login and a manual. We spend time at the counter and in the vault, build Verity around how your shop weighs, values and hands over gold, bring your data in, then stay to make sure it keeps working.

  1. Week 1

    Discovery and mapping

    What we do
Spend a day at the counter and one with your karigar slips. Watch how a piece is tagged, how an estimate becomes a bill, how old gold is tested and how the day is counted.
    What we need from you
Two to three hours of yours and your senior salesperson's. Access to your stock register, a month of bills and the scheme ledger.
What you have at the end
A written map of your shop: the tag structure, rate and making rules, exchange practice, karigar flow, scheme terms and the first leaks we will close.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3

    Configuration

    What we do
Set up purities, tag fields, the rate record, making and discount limits, exchange fields, karigar job fields, scheme rules and showrooms, and build the six screens around your own terms.
    What we need from you
Check the setup with your senior salesperson. Tell us where a rate, limit or scheme rule is wrong.
What you have at the end
A working Verity with your real purities, limits, scheme terms and staff, ready for your data.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4

    Migration and training

    What we do
Bring in your tag stock, karigar balances, scheme members and customer list from the registers and sheets you use. Train the counter, vault and accounts people during real working hours.
    What we need from you
A physical count of tagged stock and of gold with karigars, and your scheme ledger in whatever form it exists. One hour with each role.
What you have at the end
Your stock, karigar gold, schemes and customers inside Verity, and a team that has closed a day on it.
  4. After go-live

    Operations partnership

    What we do
Stay on after launch. Review the first weeks of numbers with you, tune the limits and wastage rules, and handle changes when you add a showroom, a scheme or a karigar.
    What we need from you
A short monthly review of what the numbers say.
What you have at the end
A system that keeps matching how the shop runs, with someone responsible for it.

Bring these on day one

  • A list of your tagged stock with weights
  • Gold balances with each karigar
  • Your scheme ledger or cards
  • A month of estimates and bills
  • Hallmark and HUID details if you have them

Your time

About 9 to 12 hours of your own time across the four weeks, mostly in week 1 and the physical counts. Your senior salesperson and accounts person need a few more.

After go-live

Nobody is hired to run Verity. Estimates, exchanges and karigar jobs are recorded as part of work the team already does, and the reports come from those records.

Verity AI

Ask your shop a question. Get an answer, not a report to build.

Verity AI reads your own stock, exchange, karigar and customer records. Ask in plain language, then turn the answer into tasks for the right people.

  • Your records only Answers come from your own jewellery stores data, not from generic knowledge.
  • Right person, right view It only shows what the person asking is allowed to see.
  • Turns into action An answer can become a task assigned to a named person.

Verity / Ask

Which karigars hold the most gold and are over their allowed wastage?

Rafique holds the most open gold at 120 grams, and his last job was 0.9 gram over the allowed wastage. Two other karigars are within limits.

  • Rafique120 g held, 0.9 g over
  • Dinesh85 g held, on track
  • Salim60 g held, within limit

Create a review task for the manager

Verity / Ask

Which designs have not sold in 12 months, and how much gold is in them?

24 designs worth about ₹31 lakh have not sold in a year. The two heaviest are the antique temple set and the kada pair.

  • Antique temple set112 g
  • Heavy kada pair96 g
  • Other 22 designs₹26 lakh

Verity / Ask

Which scheme members matured or missed instalments this week?

Meena Shah matures this month, and Anil Gupta has missed two instalments. Four more members are due within seven days.

  • Matures1
  • Missed two or more1
  • Due in seven days4

Assign follow-up calls to staff

Sample questions and answers with illustrative figures.

Without chasing

The follow-ups nobody has time to make.

Set once, then they run from your records. Staff still talk to customers and karigars; Verity makes sure the right person knows what to do.

Rules and paperwork

The rules a jewellery shop has to keep up with.

Verity does not give legal or tax advice and does not file anything for you. It keeps the records these rules depend on in order, so you are not hunting for them when someone asks.

  • BIS hallmarking and HUID

    What is expected

Hallmarking of gold jewellery is generally mandatory in notified districts, now 380, for 14, 18, 20, 22, 23 and 24 karat. Each hallmarked piece carries a HUID, which buyers can check on the BIS CARE app. Confirm whether your district is covered.

    How Verity helps

Each piece stores its HUID, purity and tag. Pieces without a HUID where one is required are flagged, and the HUID on a bill is matched to the piece.

  • Silver hallmarking

    What is expected

Silver hallmarking is voluntary as of June 2026, but hallmarked silver carries a HUID from September 2025. The Bureau of Indian Standards is studying a mandatory regime and has set no date. One trade report suggested October 2026 and it is unconfirmed.

    How Verity helps

Silver pieces carry the same fields as gold, so a change in the rule is a setting, not a rebuild.

  • Cash sales, PAN and reporting

    What is expected

Dealers in precious metals and stones generally have record and reporting duties for large cash dealings with a customer, and PAN or ID is generally needed above set sale values. The thresholds and procedures have changed over time, so confirm the current ones with your accountant.

    How Verity helps

Each large sale or exchange is linked to the customer record with ID details and payment mode, and sales above the limit you set are flagged at the counter.

  • Savings schemes

    What is expected

Schemes that collect instalments from customers have been looked at by regulators for years, and rules for companies on accepting deposits have applied since 2014. Whether and how a scheme is permitted depends on how your business is set up, so take advice before you run or change one.

    How Verity helps

Each scheme has its terms, members, instalments and maturity as records, so what you owe members is always clear.

Rules change and differ by state. Confirm current requirements with your accountant, your Bureau of Indian Standards licence contact or the relevant authority.

Who sees what

Everyone sees the same records, through their own window.

A salesperson should not see the cost of every piece. The vault keeper should not change the rate. Each role opens on what it needs.

  • Owner

Where is my gold, and what is it earning?

Stock value by age, gold with karigars, exchange gaps, discounts, scheme liabilities and every showroom side by side.

  • Manager

    What needs sorting today?

Approvals waiting, pieces on approval, orders at risk, scheme dues and the close count.

  • Salesperson

What do I quote and who is coming in?

Today's rate, estimates, customer history, family dates and scheme members.

  • Vault and karigar keeper

    Who has what?

Tag stock, issue and return of gold, karigar balances, transfers and old gold lots.

  • Accountant

What was bought, sold and held?

Bills by payment mode, exchange values, supplier dues, scheme collections and write-offs.

Straight answers

What changes, and what stays the same.

Keep using

  • Your billing software at the counter. We agree during setup how bills and payments reach Verity.
  • Your weighing scales and testing machine. Staff enter or confirm the reading.
  • WhatsApp for customers and karigars. Staff reply
  • Verity tracks who owes a reply.
  • Your accountant, who still prepares your returns.

Verity does not

  • Run your billing counter or print bills.
  • Take online orders or host a shop for you.
  • Send messages to customers or karigars on its own.
  • File your returns or tell you how to price gold.

We bring your tag stock, karigar balances, scheme members and customers across from the registers, sheets and cards you use now, in stages, so the shop keeps trading while it happens.

Questions

Questions jewellers ask.

Will my salespeople actually enter exchange and approval details at a busy counter?

Only if it takes seconds. We set exchange as a short form with a few fields and approval as one tap, and we train at the counter during real hours. We start with what matters most and add fields later.

Does Verity replace my billing software?

No. Your billing keeps making bills. We agree during setup how bills and payments reach Verity, which then does the stock, karigar, exchange, scheme and customer work around them.

Can it tell me the exact gold rate?

No. You or your manager enter the day's rate, with the time. Verity uses that one rate in every estimate and shows when it has gone stale.

Can it handle HUID and hallmark records?

Yes, as fields on each piece, matched to the bill. Verity does not check the BIS system itself. Your team verifies the HUID the way they do today.

I use karigars outside the shop. Can it track gold I give them?

Yes. Each job records issue, return, scrap and wastage, so you see the gold each karigar holds and how a job compares with the allowed loss.

Can it run my savings scheme?

It records members, instalments, bonus terms and maturity, and lists who is due or has missed. It does not collect money and does not advise whether your scheme is permitted. Take that advice from your adviser.

I have two showrooms and a small workshop. Can I see them together?

Yes. Each is a location in one system, with stock, exchange and scheme numbers side by side. A transfer is a record that must be received at the other end.

Who can see my data?

Only the people you allow. Access is set by role, so a salesperson can see the price but not your cost, and every change is recorded with who made it and when.

What does it cost?

It depends on the number of showrooms, staff and what you want set up. Message us and we will give you a clear number after a short conversation about how your shop runs.
