Verity for yoga studios

A yoga studio runs on batches and trust. When a teacher leaves or a batch thins out, the students go quietly.

A yoga studio is a set of batches: morning pranayama, evening vinyasa, weekend beginners. Each has a teacher, a room and regular faces. Students pay by the month, by the term or by the pack, and join mid-month. Retreats and workshops add a second business with deposits and waiting lists. Verity connects the batch, the student, the teacher and the event, so a thinning batch or a lapsing renewal shows up while you can still talk to the person.

Verity in one line

One system that knows every batch and its attendance, every student and their renewal date, every teacher and who covers them, and every retreat and who has paid.

Free: we set up a working demo of your own business, on your own data, within 7 days. You pay only if your team decides to use it.

Your reception billing and any class app stay. Verity records attendance, renewals, teachers and events around them.

How it runs today

Most yoga studios feel full or empty. Few can say why.

The room is easy to read. The 6 am batch is full, the 11 am has five regulars, the weekend retreat is nearly booked. What is hard to see is behind it: which batch has lost a third of its students since July, who joined mid-month and owes a part fee, which teacher the evening crowd really comes for, and who has paid the second instalment for the retreat.

The information exists in pieces. A register at the desk holds attendance. A sheet holds fees. A WhatsApp group per batch holds announcements. A different chat holds the retreat sign-ups. The owner, often also the lead teacher, carries the rest in memory.

India's yoga market is estimated at about USD 5 billion in 2025 by one research firm, with offline classes holding nearly three quarters of it. Most of that spend is at neighbourhood studios, which means students have many places to go and few reasons to stay if the studio forgets them.

What most yoga studios run on

  • Paper or app attendance register
  • Fee sheet or receipt book
  • WhatsApp groups per batch and per retreat
  • Instagram for enquiries
  • Excel for teacher payments

Each one is quick for its own job. None of them tells you that the student who paid for three months has come six times.

15 problems, one by one

Where a yoga studio actually loses money.

These are the situations studio owners and managers describe again and again. For each one: what it looks like on an ordinary day, what it costs, and what Verity does about it.

  1. 01Batches

A batch thins out and nobody sees it happen

    What it looks like

The 7:30 am batch had twenty students in April. In October there are twelve. Each person who left did it quietly, in a different week, and the teacher assumed the others were on holiday.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: eight students at ₹2,500 a month is ₹20,000 a month, or ₹2.4 lakh a year, gone from one batch.

    How Verity fixes it

Attendance is recorded by batch and student. Verity shows each batch's strength by week and lists students whose attendance has dropped, so the drift is visible at four weeks, not at six months.

    See the screen
  2. 02Teachers

Students follow the teacher, not the studio

    What it looks like

A popular evening teacher moves to another studio. Half her batch follows. The studio has no record of which students came for her or how much they pay.

    What it costs you

A single teacher leaving can take a large part of a batch's income. Assocham's 2018 study put the country's shortage at about 300,000 instructors, so good teachers have options.

    How Verity fixes it

Each batch shows its students and their attendance by teacher. Verity shows how dependent a batch is on one teacher, and a second teacher can be assigned to attend and build a relationship before a handover.

    See the screen
  3. 03Teachers

A teacher is unwell and cover is arranged in a chat

    What it looks like

The 6 am teacher messages at 5 that she has a fever. The manager scrolls through contacts to find someone who can teach hatha, is free, and will accept the usual rate.

    What it costs you

A cancelled class loses regulars' trust, and a cover who teaches a different style changes the batch's experience.

    How Verity fixes it

Each teacher's styles, availability and leave are on one schedule. When someone is out, Verity lists who can teach that style and is free, and the cover is recorded against the class so payment follows.

    See the screen
  4. 04Renewals

Students renew late, or not at all

    What it looks like

A monthly student's fee was due on the 1st. By the 12th she is still attending. The desk is reluctant to ask. By the 20th she has stopped coming.

    What it costs you

Late renewals lead to arguments about the part month, and some of those students never come back.

    How Verity fixes it

Each student has a plan, start, end and renewal date. Verity lists renewals due in the next ten days and those overdue, with a task to the person who knows the student. Staff speak to the student; Verity records the result.

    See the screen
  5. 05Renewals

Mid-month joiners and part fees cause confusion

    What it looks like

A student joins on the 17th. The desk makes up a part-month fee and writes it in the notebook. Next month nobody remembers when her cycle starts, so she pays for a week she has already used.

    What it costs you

Disputes over small amounts that annoy students and consume time.

    How Verity fixes it

The plan stores its cycle rules. A student who joins mid-month gets an end date and a renewal date by your rule, and the record shows exactly what was paid for which days.

    See the screen
  6. 06Renewals

Class packs and drop-in passes expire unused

    What it looks like

A student buys a ten-class pack in January and uses six. In April she asks to use the other four. The desk does not know the expiry rule or what was said when she bought it.

    What it costs you

Arguments, goodwill extensions that become a habit, and no view of how many unused classes you owe.

    How Verity fixes it

A pack is a record with classes bought, used and left, expiry, and any extension with its reason and approver. Verity lists packs that will lapse soon with the student's usual batch.

    See the screen
  7. 07Retreats

Retreat registrations and instalments sit in a chat

    What it looks like

A weekend retreat has twenty places. Fourteen people sent a message saying yes, nine paid a deposit, three paid the second instalment and two asked for a room change. The details are in forwarded screenshots.

    What it costs you

Unpaid places that could be sold, last-minute drop-outs with no deposit rule applied, and a spreadsheet that is wrong on the day of the retreat.

    How Verity fixes it

Each retreat is an event with places, price, instalments and due dates. Each participant is a record with what they have paid, room choice, diet notes and what is owed. Verity lists overdue instalments and open places.

    See the screen
  8. 08Retreats

Workshops fill unevenly and the waiting list is a paper list

    What it looks like

A Saturday workshop on backbends has fifteen places. Twenty ask. The waiting list is on a sheet at the desk. When two cancel, no one is called, and the room runs with twelve.

    What it costs you

Empty places in a high-demand workshop and disappointed regulars.

    How Verity fixes it

Workshops have places, a waiting list and a task to offer a freed place. Verity shows who is next and records whether they took it.

    See the screen
  9. 09Teachers

Teacher pay is worked out from memory

    What it looks like

One teacher is paid per class, one per head, one a fixed monthly sum, and one a share of a workshop. At month end the owner adds it up from the register and the WhatsApp group.

    What it costs you

Hours of owner time and quiet disputes with the teachers you most want to keep.

    How Verity fixes it

Each class taken, cover given and workshop led is recorded against the teacher with the rate rule you agreed. Verity totals what each teacher is owed. You pay them, or your accountant does; Verity does not run payroll.

    See the screen
  10. 10Teachers

Certificates and training for teachers are not tracked

    What it looks like

A new teacher says she is certified. Nobody keeps a copy. Another teacher's first aid training lapsed last year.

    What it costs you

A weak answer if a student is hurt or a corporate client asks for credentials. Parents and companies often ask who is teaching.

    How Verity fixes it

Each teacher's qualifications, certificate dates, expiry and first aid training are records with a reminder. The voluntary certification scheme run by the government for yoga professionals is one option studios use; Verity just stores the dates you have.

    See the screen
  11. 11Care

Health notes, pregnancy and injuries are not told to the teacher

    What it looks like

A student mentions a disc problem to the desk at sign-up. The teacher in class does not know and gives a forward fold. A pregnant student is in a hot class.

    What it costs you

Injury, complaints and a student who does not return. The studio has nothing on record to show it asked.

    How Verity fixes it

Health notes, injuries and pregnancy are on the student's record with a date. The class list shows a flag for any student with a note, so the teacher sees it before class. Verity stores the information; it does not give medical advice.

    See the screen
  12. 12Sales

Enquiries from Instagram, corporates and walk-ins go cold

    What it looks like

A company asks for a weekly session for thirty staff. A walk-in books a trial and leaves a number. An Instagram message asks about the beginners batch. Each reply depends on who has time.

    What it costs you

Corporate and group requests are the largest sales a studio sees, and a person who has decided to try yoga will try the next studio if no one replies.

    How Verity fixes it

Each enquiry and trial is a record with an owner, source and next step. Verity lists those with no follow-up and tells the owner of the enquiry. The outcome is recorded.

    See the screen
  13. 13Upkeep

Mats, props and the room itself wear out unnoticed

    What it looks like

The studio's mats are three years old. Bolsters are stained. The hot room's heater has not been serviced. Nobody has a list.

    What it costs you

Hygiene complaints, replacements bought in a hurry, and a class lost when equipment fails.

    How Verity fixes it

Mats, props, heaters and sound equipment are asset records with purchase date, condition and a service or cleaning schedule. A task goes to the person who owns each item.

    See the screen
  14. 14Money

The day's money does not match the register

    What it looks like

Fees arrive as cash, UPI and cards. The receipt book and the register disagree. A friend of a teacher attended three classes and nothing was recorded.

    What it costs you

A few hundred rupees a day becomes a larger gap over a month, and the owner stops trusting the sheet.

    How Verity fixes it

Fees and passes are records with the payment mode and any discount with an approver. Verity compares them to what was collected, and attendance without a plan or pass is flagged.

    See the screen
  15. 15Owner

Two studios or a studio plus a school programme, with no single view

    What it looks like

A second studio opened across the city. One keeps a register, the other an app. A corporate programme runs on its own sheet. The owner cannot compare batches or teachers.

    What it costs you

You cannot learn what works, so each studio repeats the other's mistakes.

    How Verity fixes it

Each studio and programme is a location. Batches, students, teachers and events appear side by side, and the owner's morning screen shows what needs a decision.

An ordinary day

The same Thursday, before and after.

What changes is not the practice. It is that the day leaves a record, and the record does the chasing.

WhenTodayWith Verity
5:00 am TodayThe 6 am teacher messages that she is ill. The manager searches a chat for cover. With VerityVerity lists the teachers who can teach hatha and are free. One confirms, and the cover is recorded for pay.
8:00 am TodayThe 7:30 batch has nine students and nobody has asked why in a month. With VerityThe batch shows a drop of eight since April. A task asks Karan and the desk to speak to the students who left.
11:30 TodayA student argues that her ten-class pack is still valid. With VerityHer record shows the expiry, the classes left and the extension rule. It takes a minute.
2:00 pm TodayThe retreat list is in three chats and nobody is sure who has paid the second instalment. With VerityThe retreat screen shows seven balances due. Each has a task with the person who knows the participant.
7:30 pm TodayA pregnant student joins a hot class and the teacher is not told. With VerityThe class list flags her note. The teacher offers a different class before anyone steps on the mat.
Month end TodayThe owner works out teacher pay from the register and a chat. With VerityClasses, cover and workshops were recorded as they happened, so each teacher's total is ready.

How we work with you

We set it up with you, in four weeks.

You do not get a login and a manual. We spend time at the studio, build Verity around how your batches really run, bring your data in, then stay to make sure it keeps working.

  1. Week 1

    Discovery and mapping

    What we do
Sit in on a morning and an evening batch. Watch how a student is registered, how a fee or pass is recorded, how cover is arranged and how a retreat is run. Note which gaps matter most.
    What we need from you
Two to three hours of yours and the desk lead's. Your batch timetable, plan and pack prices, teacher rates and the last retreat's sheet.
What you have at the end
A written map of your studio: batches, plans, packs, teacher rules, events and the first gaps we will close.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3

    Configuration

    What we do
Set up batches and rooms, plans and packs with their cycle and expiry rules, teachers with styles, rates and certificate dates, retreats and workshops with instalment schedules, and build the five screens around your terms.
    What we need from you
Check the setup with your lead teacher and desk. Tell us where a rule or a rate is wrong.
What you have at the end
A working Verity with your real batches, students, teachers and rules, ready for your data.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4

    Migration and training

    What we do
Bring in your student list, plans and balances, teacher details and the current retreat sheet from the registers and sheets you use. Train the desk and teachers during real batches.
    What we need from you
Your student list and fee sheet in whatever form it exists, and a check of ten students' dates. One hour with each role.
What you have at the end
Your students, plans and teachers inside Verity, and a team that has run a full week of batches on it.
  4. After go-live

    Operations partnership

    What we do
Stay on after launch. Review the first month with you, tune renewal and cover rules, and handle changes when you add a batch, a teacher or a retreat.
    What we need from you
A short monthly review of what the numbers say.
What you have at the end
A system that keeps matching how the studio runs, with someone responsible for it.

Bring these on day one

  • Your timetable and batch list
  • Your fee plans, packs and any mid-month joining rule
  • Student list with plan and last payment date
  • Each teacher's rate rule, styles and certificates
  • The last retreat's participant and payment sheet

Your time

About 8 to 10 hours of your own time across the four weeks, mostly in week 1. Your desk lead and lead teacher need a few more.

After go-live

Nobody is hired to run Verity. Attendance, renewals and cover are recorded as part of work the team already does, and the reports come from those records.

Verity AI

Ask your studio a question. Get an answer, not a report to build.

Verity AI reads your own batches, students, teachers and events. Ask in plain language, then turn the answer into tasks for the right people.

  • Your records only Answers come from your own yoga studios data, not from generic knowledge.
  • Right person, right view It only shows what the person asking is allowed to see.
  • Turns into action An answer can become a task assigned to a named person.

Rules and paperwork

The rules a yoga studio has to keep up with.

Verity does not give legal or tax advice and does not file anything for you. It keeps the records these rules depend on in order, so you are not hunting for them when someone asks.

  • GST on yoga classes

    What is expected

From 22 September 2025, commercial yoga and gym services are generally charged at 5 percent GST without input tax credit, and CBIC said the rate is mandatory. Some yoga run by charitable trusts may be exempt. Check your own case.

    How Verity helps

Each fee and pass is a record with the amount, date and payment mode, so your accountant can prepare returns from clean data. Verity does not file returns.

Business Today on the CBIC clarification

  • Voluntary certification for yoga professionals

    What is expected

The Ministry of AYUSH launched a voluntary scheme in 2016 to certify yoga professionals through third-party assessment, with certificates valid for three years at the start. Management later moved to the Yoga Certification Board, and levels and validity have been revised, so check the board's site for current rules. It is voluntary, but companies and parents may ask for it.

    How Verity helps

Each teacher's certificate, level and expiry date is a record with a reminder, so a renewal becomes a task before it lapses.

Embassy of India Astana on the scheme, 2016

  • Students' personal and health data

    What is expected

The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on 13 November 2025. Notice, consent and safeguard duties for businesses holding personal data are generally due from 13 May 2027. Health notes and pregnancy status are sensitive in practice.

    How Verity helps

Health notes sit on the student's record with who can see them. Access is by role and every change is logged.

AZB & Partners on the DPDP phases

  • Local registrations and music

    What is expected

Studios commonly need a Shops and Establishments registration or a municipal trade licence. A licence for playing recorded music in class is generally also needed. Requirements vary by city.

    How Verity helps

Each registration is stored with its renewal date and owner, and a renewal becomes a task weeks before it lapses.

Rules change and differ by city and state. Confirm current requirements with your accountant, a lawyer or the relevant authority.

Who sees what

Everyone sees the same records, through their own window.

A teacher should not see everyone's pay. The desk should not edit teacher rates. Each role opens on what it needs.

  • Owner

Are my batches healthy, and what is leaving?

Batch strength, renewals, teacher dependence, retreat balances and every studio side by side.

  • Studio manager

    What needs sorting this week?

Cover needed, renewals due, batches below fill, events open and equipment due.

  • Teacher

Who is in my class and who needs a word?

Their class lists with health notes, their quiet students, upcoming covers and their own total.

  • Front desk

Who is here, what do they hold, what is pending?

Check-in, plan and pack balance, renewal dates, enquiries and the closing checklist.

  • Accountant

What was collected and owed to teachers?

Fees and passes by payment mode, discounts with approvers, retreat payments and teacher totals.

Questions

Questions yoga studio owners ask.

I teach most of my own classes and run the desk. Is this for me?

Yes, if you would like to stop running the studio from memory. We set up only what you need and keep the desk work to a few taps, so you can spend your time teaching.

Will my desk and teachers really mark attendance?

Only if it takes seconds, so check-in is one tap on the class list. We train at the studio during real batches and start with the few records that matter.

Can it handle students who join mid-month?

Yes. The plan stores your cycle rule, so a student who joins on the 17th gets an end date and renewal date by that rule, and the record shows what was paid for which days.

We run retreats and workshops. Can it track instalments?

Yes. Each event has places, price and instalment dates, and each participant has what they have paid, room and diet notes, and what is owed. Verity lists overdue payments and open places. It does not take bookings or payments online.

Can it take class bookings or online sign-ups?

No. If students book or pay online today, that tool keeps working. Verity records attendance and renewals around it and makes sure someone follows up with students who drift.

Can it work out teacher pay?

Yes, once the rate rule for each teacher is set up. It totals classes, cover and workshops from your records. You or your accountant make the payment; Verity does not run payroll.

I have two studios. Can I see them together?

Yes. Each is a location in one system, with batches, students and teachers side by side.

Who can see my data?

Only the people you allow. Access is set by role, so teachers, the desk and your accountant each see what they need, and every change is recorded with who made it and when.

How quickly will I see something useful?

The renewals list and the batch strength view need only your existing data, so we aim to have them first. Cover and teacher dependence patterns become reliable after a few weeks of recorded classes.

What does it cost?

It depends on the number of studios, teachers and what you want set up. Message us and we will give you a clear number after a short conversation about how your studio runs.
