Verity for packaging companies

In packaging, the spec is the price. A box quoted wrong stays wrong for the whole run.

Every packaging job starts as a specification: size, board or film, print, finish, quantity. Quote it a little low, let wastage run a little high, miss the die that was already made, and a full order leaves the factory at a loss. Verity ties the quote, the job, the material, the tooling and the delivery to one record, so you can see what each job really earned.

Verity in one line

One system that knows every spec, every die and plate, every reel of material and every promised delivery date.

Free: we set up a working demo of your own business, on your own data, within 7 days. You pay only if your team decides to use it.

Built for a shop floor with machine operators, not data entry staff. Records come from the job card, the material issue and the dispatch note.

How it runs today

Most packaging units are busy and still unsure which jobs made money.

A customer sends a sample or a drawing. Someone estimates a price from experience. The order is confirmed on a call or a message. The job card goes to the floor. The estimate stays in one file and the actual cost is never put next to it.

Material is the biggest cost. Board, paper, film, ink and adhesive are bought on rates that change, issued by reel or sheet, and wasted in setup and trim. The loss is a number nobody sees per job.

Tooling is a hidden asset. A die, a printing plate or a cylinder made for one customer is needed again six months later. Where it is, whose it is and what it cost to make are often answered by asking the machine operator.

What most packaging companies run on

  • Estimate sheets in Excel
  • Job cards on paper
  • Stores register for board, film and ink
  • Accounts software
  • WhatsApp with customers, drivers and suppliers

Each works alone. The quote, the cost and the delivery are never on one page.

14 problems, one by one

Where a packaging company actually loses money.

These are the situations packaging owners and plant heads describe again and again. For each: what it looks like on an ordinary day, what it costs, and what Verity does about it.

  1. 01Quoting

A job is quoted on feel and the real cost is never compared

    What it looks like

A buyer asks for 20,000 printed cartons. The estimate is done from last year's similar job. The board rate has changed twice since.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: a ₹6 carton quoted at ₹6.40 with actual cost of ₹6.20 earns ₹0.20 a piece, so ₹4,000 on the order. A 3 percent wastage overrun alone wipes that out.

    How Verity fixes it

Each quote is a record built from spec, material at the latest rate, wastage allowance, tooling and conversion cost. When the job closes, Verity shows quoted against actual cost and margin by job and by customer.

    See the screen
  2. 02Production

Wastage in setup and trim runs above the allowance

    What it looks like

A print job takes 300 sheets to get colour right on a short run. The corrugator trim on a particular size is higher than the estimate allowed. Nobody records either.

    What it costs you

Material is usually the largest cost in a converter. A point or two of extra wastage across all jobs is a visible dent in a thin margin.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job records material issued, good output and waste, with a reason such as setup, trim or damage. Verity shows wastage by job, machine and operator against the allowance used in the quote.

    See the screen
  3. 03Costing

Board and film prices move and the price list does not

    What it looks like

Kraft paper rises, film goes up with crude, and ink changes. One trade account of the 2021 board surge reports raw material costs of corrugated box makers up by at least 70 percent in about 14 months, with converters asking brand owners to share the increase.

    What it costs you

A box maker who cannot show a customer the cost movement on a given job has a weak case for a revision.

    How Verity fixes it

Every purchase records its rate. Verity compares current material rates with the rate in each open quote, flags jobs where cost has moved beyond your limit, and gives the documented numbers for a price revision conversation.

    See the screen
  4. 04Tooling

Dies, plates and cylinders are lost or made twice

    What it looks like

A repeat order for a customer's carton needs the die made last year. It is not where the register says. A new one is made, and the old one turns up later.

    What it costs you

A die or a set of printing plates can be a real expense, and a duplicate or a delayed job is avoidable.

    How Verity fixes it

Each die, plate set and cylinder is an asset record with customer, spec, location, number of impressions run and what it cost. A job picks its tooling from the record and the location changes when it is issued and returned.

    See the screen
  5. 05Tooling

Tooling cost is never charged to the customer

    What it looks like

The die and plate cost is absorbed into the first order. A customer cancels after the first run and the tooling cost stays with you.

    What it costs you

Unrecovered tooling is a straight loss. It also hides which customers are costly to serve.

    How Verity fixes it

Tooling cost is recorded against the customer and the spec, with what was charged and what remains to be recovered. Verity lists tooling unrecovered by customer.

    See the screen
  6. 06Customers

Sample approvals and artwork changes get lost

    What it looks like

The customer changes a colour on WhatsApp after the plates are made. The approved artwork is one version, the file on the computer is another, and the operator prints from the old one.

    What it costs you

A full reprint of a job is a direct loss, and an argument over who approved what.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job holds the approved artwork version, the sign-off by the customer with date, and changes with who requested them. The job card shows only the approved version.

    See the screen
  7. 07Delivery

Delivery dates are promised before the machine slot is checked

    What it looks like

Sales confirms Thursday. The press is booked until Wednesday and the sheets have not been cut. The job moves to Saturday and the customer's line stops.

    What it costs you

Packaging goes into the customer's own production. Lateness can halt their line, and it costs you the next order.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job shows spec, material availability, machine slot and promised date. The planner sees conflicts before a date is committed, and late-running jobs are listed with the reason.

    See the screen
  8. 08Delivery

Part deliveries and returns are not tracked

    What it looks like

A customer takes 8,000 of a 20,000 order and asks for the rest in lots. Each lot has its own challan. A box batch is rejected for print quality and nobody records the quantity or the reason.

    What it costs you

Open balances are forgotten, and rejections are argued from memory instead of from the batch.

    How Verity fixes it

Each dispatch is recorded against the job with quantity and challan. Verity shows balance to deliver, and a rejection is a record with batch, quantity and reason, linked to the job.

    See the screen
  9. 09Quality

Quality complaints cannot be traced to a reel or a shift

    What it looks like

A food company complains about seal strength on a flexible pack. The reel lot, the laminator shift and the operator are not recorded on the job.

    What it costs you

A complaint with no root cause becomes a credit note and a repeat problem.

    How Verity fixes it

Jobs record reel and board lots issued, machine and operator, and the in-process checks. A complaint links to the job and shows the lots and shift behind it.

    See the screen
  10. 10Equipment

Machines stop for reasons no one writes down

    What it looks like

A printing press loses two hours a shift for plate changes, web breaks and waiting for material. The day report says output was low.

    What it costs you

Hours lost repeat day after day because the causes are not named.

    How Verity fixes it

Stops are recorded with reason and duration. Verity shows downtime by machine and cause, and links scheduled maintenance tasks to each machine.

    See the screen
  11. 11Money

Customers pay slowly, and small packaging firms pay slowly too

    What it looks like

A large buyer pays at 90 days. You pay your board supplier at 30. A small converter selling to you waits longer than it should.

    What it costs you

Since 1 April 2024, a buyer paying a micro or small enterprise supplier beyond the agreed period, capped at 45 days, generally cannot deduct the amount until paid. If you are the small supplier, this matters to your customer. If you are the buyer, it matters to you.

    How Verity fixes it

Invoices and supplier bills are tracked against their due dates and the 45 day limit where it applies. Verity lists overdue amounts by customer and age with the person who owns the relationship, and shows supplier bills nearing the limit.

    See the screen
  12. 12Compliance

Packaging rules for plastic keep changing

    What it looks like

A customer asks for your CPCB registration details on flexible packaging, or whether the pack carries the new QR code. The answer depends on who finds the certificate.

    What it costs you

Customers who are brand owners must put registration details on their packs, and they rely on their packaging supplier for correct information. An error or a delay delays their packs.

    How Verity fixes it

Each registration, certificate and test report is a record with its number and expiry. Jobs for regulated products carry the needed information, and Verity lists those where details are missing.

    See the screen
  13. 13Compliance

Food-contact packaging needs records you do not have

    What it looks like

A biscuit maker asks for proof that the board, ink and film you supply are suitable for food contact. The test reports are with the supplier or in a folder.

    What it costs you

Without the documents, you lose food-sector customers or hold up deliveries while you search.

    How Verity fixes it

Material lots link to supplier test reports. Verity shows, for each food-contact job, which lots were used and which reports are on file, and flags gaps.

    See the screen
  14. 14Owner

The owner learns which jobs paid at the end of the quarter

    What it looks like

The accountant shows margin by month. Nobody can say which customers and specs earn the most per machine hour.

    What it costs you

Decisions about which jobs to chase or drop run on feel.

    How Verity fixes it

One morning screen with jobs closed, margin by job and customer, material wastage, tooling at risk, deliveries due and overdue dues.

How we work with you

We set it up with you, in four weeks.

You do not get a login and a manual. We spend time on your floor, at the estimating desk and at the dispatch gate, build Verity around how your unit really runs, bring your data in, then stay to make sure it keeps working.

  1. Week 1

    Discovery and mapping

    What we do
Spend a shift in your unit. Follow a job from enquiry and estimate to material issue, printing, finishing and delivery, and see where its cost and records are lost.
    What we need from you
Two to three hours of yours and your plant head's. A few estimates, job cards and a month of dispatches.
What you have at the end
A written map of your unit: product types, how a quote is built, material and wastage allowances, tooling, machine slots, and the first gaps we will close.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3

    Configuration

    What we do
Set up customers, specs and estimate rules, material list and rates, wastage allowances, tooling records, job cards, machine slots, delivery rules and the six screens in your own terms.
    What we need from you
Check the setup with the estimating head and the plant head. Tell us where a rule or an allowance is wrong.
What you have at the end
A working Verity with your real specs, rules and people, ready for your data.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4

    Migration and training

    What we do
Bring in your customers, open jobs, material stock, tooling list and open dues from your sheets and accounts export. Train the estimating desk, stores, machine leads, dispatch and accounts at their own stations.
    What we need from you
Your tooling list in whatever form it exists, a stock count and the dues list. One hour with each role.
What you have at the end
Your unit's data inside Verity and a team that has used it through live jobs.
  4. After go-live

    Operations partnership

    What we do
Stay on after launch. Review the first weeks of margin and wastage with you, tune allowances, and change setup when you add a machine or a product type.
    What we need from you
A short monthly review of what the numbers say.
What you have at the end
A system that keeps matching how the unit runs, with someone responsible for it.

Bring these on day one

  • Your last month of estimates and job cards
  • A tooling list with customers
  • Stores register with material rates
  • The licence and registration list with dates
  • Open orders and dues

Your time

About 9 to 12 hours of your own time across the four weeks, mostly in week 1. The estimating head, plant head and accounts person need a few more.

After go-live

Nobody is hired to run Verity. Material issue, wastage and dispatch are recorded as part of work the unit already does, and the reports come from those records.

Verity AI

Ask your unit a question. Get an answer, not a report to build.

Verity AI reads your own quotes, jobs, material and tooling. Ask in plain language, then turn the answer into tasks for the right people.

  • Your records only Answers come from your own packaging companies data, not from generic knowledge.
  • Right person, right view It only shows what the person asking is allowed to see.
  • Turns into action An answer can become a task assigned to a named person.

Verity / Ask

Which customers earned us the least per piece this quarter?

Three customers are below 1 percent margin. Two of them are on quotes made before the August board rate.

  • Metro Retail-0.4%
  • Kiran Agro0.3%
  • Shah Foods0.7%

Create quote review tasks for sales

Verity / Ask

Why was wastage above allowance last week?

Setup waste on short runs on Press 2 is the main cause, followed by trim on the 3 ply size 420 by 310.

Rules and paperwork

The rules a packaging company has to keep up with.

Verity does not give legal advice and does not file anything for you. It keeps the records these rules depend on in order, so you are not hunting for them when someone asks.

  • Plastic packaging registration and labelling

    What is expected

Producers, importers and brand owners of plastic packaging generally register with the Central Pollution Control Board, and from 1 July 2025 must show registration details on pack through a barcode or QR code, or an allowed alternative. Whether you are a producer, a brand owner or a supplier to one depends on what you do. The rules were amended several times in 2025 and 2026, so confirm the current text.

    How Verity helps

Registrations and certificates are records with number and expiry, and jobs for regulated products list the required details.

    Packaging Europe

  • Food-contact packaging standards

    What is expected

FSSAI's Packaging Regulations, 2018, generally set standards for materials that touch food, including limits on migration and a bar on some recycled materials. Your food-sector customers rely on you for proof. Check the material standards for your product.

    How Verity helps

Material lots link to supplier test reports, so each food-contact job shows what was used and which reports are on file.

  • Payment terms for micro and small suppliers

    What is expected

From 1 April 2024, a buyer that owes a micro or small seller generally must pay within the agreed period, capped at 45 days, or the amount is not deductible until paid.

    How Verity helps

Supplier bills and customer invoices show due dates against that limit.

    SetIndiaBiz

  • Factory, pollution and fire registrations

    What is expected

A packaging unit generally holds a factory licence, state pollution control consent where applicable, and fire and electrical clearances, each with its own renewal date.

    How Verity helps

Each is a record with authority, expiry and owner, and renewal tasks open weeks ahead.

Rules change and differ by product, material and state. Confirm current requirements with your consultant or the relevant authority.

Who sees what

Everyone sees the same records, through their own window.

A machine operator should not see customer margins. Sales should not change a wastage allowance. Each role opens on what it needs.

  • Owner

Which jobs and customers pay, and what is at risk?

Margin by job and customer, wastage, tooling not recovered, deliveries and dues.

  • Estimating head

Is each quote built on current rates and real wastage?

Quotes against actuals, material rate changes and open quotes affected.

  • Plant head

What ran, what stopped and what is due?

Machine slots, wastage, downtime, material shortages and delivery risks.

  • Stores and dispatch

What came in, what went out and what is owed?

Material lots, tooling locations, part deliveries and challans.

  • Accounts

What was bought, sold and owed?

Invoices tied to dispatches, supplier bills against due dates, and customer dues by age.

Questions

Questions packaging owners ask.

My operators are busy. Will they record material and waste?

Only if it takes seconds, so entry is at the material issue window and the end of each job with a few reasons to pick from. We train during live jobs and start with the records that matter most.

Can Verity tell me what each job really earned?

Yes, once quotes, material issued and wastage are recorded. Each job shows quoted against actual cost and margin, by customer and by machine.

Does it make my estimates?

It holds your estimate rules, rates and allowances and builds the quote from them. You still decide the price, and Verity shows the margin it implies.

Can it track my dies and plates?

Yes. Each is a record with customer, location, impressions run and cost recovered, and a repeat job picks it up automatically.

Does it replace my accounts software?

No. Your accounts stay where they are. We agree during setup how invoices and payments reach Verity, which then handles quotes, jobs, material, tooling and deliveries.

I run flexible packaging, not corrugated. Will it fit?

Yes. Specs, material lots, wastage, tooling and delivery work the same way. We set the fields in your own terms, such as film, lamination and reel lots.

Can I see two units together?

Yes. Each is a location in one system, with jobs, wastage, deliveries and dues side by side, and customers are the same across both.

Who can see my data?

Only the people you allow. Access is set by role, so operators, sales, estimating and accounts each see what they need, and every change is recorded with who made it and when.

How quickly will I see something useful?

The tooling list, overdue dues and material rate changes need only your existing data, so we aim to have them first. Wastage and margin patterns become reliable after a few weeks of recorded jobs.

What does it cost?

It depends on the number of units, people and what you want set up. Message us and we will give you a clear number after a short conversation about how your unit runs.
