Verity for printing businesses

You print the job once. Verity makes sure you are paid for it once, too.

A press makes money on the quote, the paper, the makeready and the first sheet that comes out right. Each of those is guessed, scribbled or remembered. Verity gives every job one record from quotation to delivery and payment, so you see which jobs earn and which only keep the machines busy.

Verity in one line

One system that follows each print job through quote, artwork, press, finishing, delivery and payment, and shows what it really cost and what is still owed.

Free: we set up a working demo of your own business, on your own data, within 7 days. You pay only if your team decides to use it.

Built for a press where the owner and foreman hold everything in their heads. Records come from the job ticket you already use.

How it runs today

Most printers know the job. Few know what it earned.

A job begins with a quote written from memory, passes through artwork, plates, press and finishing, often with a vendor for binding or lamination, and ends with a delivery challan and an invoice. Each step is usually on a different piece of paper.

Paper is the biggest cost and it moves. In 2021 printers' associations reported kraft paper rising from ₹22.50 to ₹39.50 a kilogram in about five months. A quote written last month can already be wrong.

The owner or the foreman knows which job is where, which customer is slow to pay and which machine is acting up. When either is away, the shop cannot answer a simple question.

What most printing businesses run on

  • Job ticket book
  • Excel or a notebook for quotes
  • WhatsApp with customers for artwork
  • Paper stock register
  • Billing software or a bill book

Each piece answers one question. None of them says which jobs lose money, which paper is running low or which customer owes the most.

14 problems, one by one

Where a printing business loses margin and time.

These are the situations press owners describe. For each one: what it looks like, what it costs, and what Verity does about it.

  1. 01Quoting

Quotes are guessed and the real cost is found later

    What it looks like

A customer wants 5,000 brochures by Friday. The quote comes from last year's similar job. Paper, plates, makeready, outsourced finishing and delivery are not added up.

    What it costs you

Example arithmetic: on a ₹40,000 job, missing ₹3,500 of finishing and ₹2,000 of extra paper cuts the margin by nearly 14 points. A few such jobs a month erase a good week.

    How Verity fixes it

Each quote is built from a costing sheet with paper, plates, ink, makeready, labour, outsourced work and delivery. After the job, the quote and the actual cost are compared.

    See the screen
  2. 02Paper

Paper prices move between the quote and the purchase

    What it looks like

The quote was given on Monday at last month's rate. The mill raised prices on Wednesday. The job ran on Thursday.

    What it costs you

In 2021 the All-India Federation of Master Printers reported kraft paper rising from ₹22.50 to ₹39.50 per kg in five months and held a Black Day protest over raw material costs. Prices eased in late 2025, but a single month in 2025 still saw rises of ₹2 to ₹6 per kg in some grades.

    How Verity fixes it

Paper has a current purchase rate and a rate history. Quotes use the current rate and show when it was set, so a quote older than your limit is flagged before the job starts.

    See the screen
  3. 03Artwork

Artwork approvals live in chats and the wrong version prints

    What it looks like

The customer sends three versions on WhatsApp. They approve "the second one" by voice note. The press runs the first.

    What it costs you

A full reprint, usually at your cost, and a customer who is angry and in a hurry.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job holds its artwork versions with the approval, who gave it and when. The press cannot start until the approved version is attached.

    See the screen
  4. 04Rework

Reprints and who pays for them

    What it looks like

A job comes back with a colour mismatch. Nobody is sure whether the file, the plate or the press was at fault.

    What it costs you

Paper, ink and machine time spent twice, with no record of the cause. The same mistake repeats.

    How Verity fixes it

A reprint is a record linked to the original job with its cause (file, plate, press, finishing, customer change) and cost. Verity shows reprints by cause and by operator.

    See the screen
  5. 05Jobs

Nobody knows where a job is

    What it looks like

A customer calls to ask whether the invitation cards are ready. Someone walks to the press, then to the binding table, then calls back.

    What it costs you

Staff time on status checks and a customer who feels uninformed.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job shows its stage, machine, due date and who has it. The counter answers from the record.

    See the screen
  6. 06Scheduling

Press time is booked by shouting

    What it looks like

A rush job pushes ahead of the planned runs. One machine runs late into the night while another sits idle. Festive and election seasons make it worse.

    What it costs you

Overtime, missed deliveries and uneven machine use.

    How Verity fixes it

Jobs are scheduled by machine and day. Verity shows load per machine, clashes and which jobs a rush job will push, so the choice is made with the cost in view.

    See the screen
  7. 07Machines

Machine breakdowns and maintenance are not recorded

    What it looks like

The press stops mid-run. Nobody can say when it was last serviced or how often it fails.

    What it costs you

Lost days and late jobs. One review of Indian digital printers noted that breakdowns cause long losses of productivity and damage customer relations because of late delivery. The review is old, but the problem remains.

    How Verity fixes it

Each machine has a service history, due dates and breakdown records with downtime. Verity lists overdue servicing and shows which machine loses the most hours.

    See the screen
  8. 08Paper

Paper stock is counted by eye

    What it looks like

Sheets of different sizes and GSM sit in stacks. A job needs 40 reams of one size and finds 22. Offcuts pile up unrecorded.

    What it costs you

Rush orders at a higher price, delayed jobs and capital locked in stock that does not move.

    How Verity fixes it

Paper is stock by size, GSM and brand with a reorder point. Use is recorded against each job, and Verity checks stock against the coming week's jobs.

    See the screen
  9. 09Wastage

Wastage and consumables are not measured

    What it looks like

Plates, ink and chemicals are issued on request. Spoilage sheets are thrown away. Nobody knows what a typical job wastes.

    What it costs you

Cost creeping up with no explanation, and quotes that assume less waste than the shop really has.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job records sheets issued and sheets delivered. Verity shows wastage per job, machine and operator, and the actual figure feeds back into future quotes.

    See the screen
  10. 10Vendors

    Outsourced work loses track

    What it looks like

Binding, lamination, die-cutting and foil are done by vendors. A job waits at a vendor for six days and nobody knew it was there.

    What it costs you

Late deliveries, vendor bills that do not match what was sent and lost items.

    How Verity fixes it

Each outsourced step records what was sent, to whom, the promised date and the bill. Verity lists items past their return date and compares vendor bills with the agreed rate.

    See the screen
  11. 11Delivery

    Deliveries do not match invoices

    What it looks like

A delivery goes in two parts. The challan says 5,000, the customer counts 4,800 and the invoice says 5,000.

    What it costs you

Short-receipt claims, reduced payments and arguments with no record to settle them.

    How Verity fixes it

Each delivery records quantities by challan and who received them. The invoice is checked against deliveries and shortfalls are flagged.

    See the screen
  12. 12Money

Customers pay late and chasing is by memory

    What it looks like

Some customers pay in 60 days. A few have not paid for 120. The owner remembers the biggest, and the rest drift.

    What it costs you

Cash tied up in unpaid bills and a printing machine that is idle because the paper supplier needs payment first.

    How Verity fixes it

Each invoice has a due date and an owner. Overdue ones are listed by amount and age, with a task to the person who knows the customer and the outcome recorded.

    See the screen
  13. 13Jobs

    Repeat jobs start from zero

    What it looks like

A regular customer wants last year's catalogue again with small changes. The file, paper, colours and finish are not recorded anywhere you can find.

    What it costs you

Hours spent reconstructing what the first job was, and a mismatch the customer notices.

    How Verity fixes it

Each job keeps its specification, files, approvals and costs. A repeat order starts from the old job with changes marked.

    See the screen
  14. 14Owner

The owner and the foreman are the system

    What it looks like

One person knows which jobs are late, which customers owe money, which machines are tired and which paper is low.

    What it costs you

The press cannot grow past what two people can hold in their heads, and a week away means slipping deliveries.

    How Verity fixes it

Each morning Verity shows what needs a decision, each item with an owner. A second unit or a job-work partner becomes a location in the same system.

    See the screen

The numbers behind it

The numbers that make these problems worth fixing.

From published sources, with the source named under each figure. Your own numbers will differ, and showing you yours is the first thing Verity does.

  • ₹22.50 to ₹39.50

the rise in local kraft paper prices per kilogram between October 2020 and March 2021, as reported by the All-India Federation of Master Printers ahead of a Black Day protest.

    PrintWeek, 2021

  • ₹2 to ₹6 per kg

the size of rises reported in some uncoated offset paper grades in a single monthly update in August 2025, showing that paper prices still move month to month.

    Indian Printer & Publisher, 2025

  • About 250,000

the number of printers in India according to a market research estimate, in an industry described as highly fragmented.

    Ken Research, 2025

  • 300 impressions

the point below which a review put the cross-over from digital to offset printing in India, against above 2,000 in the US, showing how short runs shape the economics. The review is undated and appears to be from about 2009.

    Papermart, about 2009

One figure is from 2021 and another from an undated review that appears to be from about 2009, so they show the nature of the problems rather than today's numbers. The industry size comes from a market research firm and is not traced to a census. The 2025 price figure could not be checked against the original page.

How we work with you

We set it up with you, in four weeks.

You do not get a login and a manual. We learn how your press actually runs, build Verity around it, bring your data in, then stay on to keep it working.

  1. Week 1

    Discovery and mapping

    What we do
Spend a day at your press. Follow a job from quote to payment, and map your job tickets, quote sheets, paper register and billing.
    What we need from you
A few hours from you and your foreman. A sample of recent job tickets and quotes and your paper list.
What you have at the end
A written map of how your jobs, paper, machines and bills run today and the problems to fix first.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3

    Configuration

    What we do
Set up customers, job stages, machines and their schedule, paper by size and weight, costing sheets, vendors and agreed rates, approvals and dues rules.
    What we need from you
Check the costing sheet fields and job stages with your foreman.
What you have at the end
A working Verity with your real machines, paper and rules, ready for your data.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4

    Migration and training

    What we do
Bring in open jobs, paper stock, customers, vendors and unpaid invoices. Train the counter, the foreman and the finishing team on live jobs.
    What we need from you
Your open job list and your unpaid bills, in whatever form they exist. One hour per role.
What you have at the end
Your press inside Verity and a team that has used it on real jobs.
  4. After go-live

    Operations partnership

    What we do
Stay on after launch. Review the first weeks with you, tune quotes and lists and handle new machines or units.
    What we need from you
A short monthly review of what the numbers say.
What you have at the end
A system that keeps matching how the press runs, with someone responsible for it.

Bring these on day one

  • Your last month of job tickets
  • Your quote sheets and rate card
  • Your paper list with sizes and current rates
  • Your list of machines with service dates
  • Your unpaid invoices and vendor list

Your time

About 7 to 10 hours of owner time across the four weeks, mostly in week 1. Your foreman and counter lead need a few more.

After go-live

Nobody is hired to run Verity. Jobs, paper and deliveries are recorded as part of the work you already do, and the reports come from those records.

Verity AI

Ask your press a question.

Verity AI reads your jobs, costs, paper, vendors and dues. Ask in plain language, then turn the answer into tasks for the right person.

  • Your records only Answers come from your own printing businesses data, not from generic knowledge.
  • Right person, right view It only shows what the person asking is allowed to see.
  • Turns into action An answer can become a task assigned to a named person.

Verity / Ask

Which jobs earned less than their quote this month, and why?

Seven jobs. Wastage above plan caused four, outsourced work above the agreed rate caused two and a reprint caused one.

  • Wastage above plan4 jobs
  • Vendor over rate2 jobs
  • Reprint1 job

Create a review task for the foreman

Verity / Ask

Which open quotes use paper rates older than 20 days?

Three open quotes worth ₹2.1 lakh. The art paper rate has risen since they were built.

  • Art paper quotes2
  • Kraft quotes1

Rules and paperwork

The rules a printing business has to keep up with.

Verity does not give legal or tax advice and does not file anything for you. It keeps the records these rules depend on in order, so you are not hunting for them when a customer, an officer or your accountant asks.

  • Customer artwork and permissions

    What is expected

Customers supply logos, photos and text, and a job can involve content you do not own. Printers are generally expected to take the customer's confirmation that they have the right to use it.

    How Verity helps

Each job records who supplied the artwork and their approval, so you can show what you were told.

  • Customer data and consent

    What is expected

Names, phone numbers and addresses on wedding cards, forms and invoices are personal data. India's data protection rules were notified in November 2025, and most duties start to apply over the following 12 to 18 months.

    How Verity helps

Customer data sits in one permissioned place, with who viewed or changed it recorded.

    AZB Partners

  • Tax on printing and job work

    What is expected

GST treatment can differ between printing as a service and printing as a sale of goods, and job work for another business has its own paperwork.

    How Verity helps

Paper, printing and outsourced work are separate lines on each job so your accountant starts from clean data.

  • Safety, fire and local permits

    What is expected

Presses use solvents, inks and heavy machines, and local authorities may ask for fire, pollution and factory approvals depending on size.

    How Verity helps

Each permit is a record with an expiry and an owner, linked to the unit it covers.

Rules differ by product, state and customer type, and they change. Confirm current requirements with your accountant and the relevant authority.

Who sees what

Everyone sees the same records, through their own window.

The counter should not see your margins. The press operator should not edit prices. Each role opens on what it needs.

  • Owner

Which jobs and customers earn, and which do not?

Job margins, paper rate changes, machine load, dues by customer and vendor bills against rates.

  • Counter or sales

    Where is my customer's job?

Quotes, artwork approvals, job stages, promised dates and callbacks due.

  • Foreman

What runs on which machine today?

Machine schedule, jobs by stage, breakdowns, servicing due and wastage.

  • Stores keeper

What paper do we have and need?

Paper by size and weight, reorder list, issues to jobs and offcuts.

  • Accountant

What did we bill and what is owed?

Invoices and dues by age, vendor bills, delivery checks and the paper, printing and outsourced split.

Straight answers

What changes, and what stays the same.

Keep using

  • Your billing software or bill book at the counter
  • Your paper suppliers and how you order
  • Your design and prepress tools
  • Your accountant, who still prepares your returns

Verity does not

  • Run your presses or design tools
  • Take online orders or payments from customers
  • Send messages to customers on its own
  • File your returns or run your payroll

We bring your open jobs, paper list, customers, vendors and unpaid invoices across from the ticket books, sheets and chats you use now, in stages, so the press keeps running while it happens.

Questions

Questions printing business owners ask.

Will my foreman and operators actually use it?

It only works if recording takes seconds, so we set it up around the job ticket they already use. We train at the press on real jobs and give each role something back: a clear list of what is on their machine and what is waiting.

Does Verity replace my design software or billing?

No. Prepress tools and billing stay as they are. Verity records the job, costs and approvals behind them, and we agree during setup how invoice details reach Verity.

Can it help me quote faster?

Yes. Quotes are built from a costing sheet with current paper rates and your own wastage history. Verity does not set your price, it shows what the job will cost.

Can it handle jobs sent to outside vendors?

Yes. Each outsourced step records what was sent, to whom, the due date and the bill against the agreed rate.

I run two units. Can I see both together?

Yes. Each unit is a location in one system. Jobs, machine load, paper and dues can be compared side by side.

Does it track which machine causes the most delay?

Yes. Breakdowns and downtime are recorded per machine, and servicing due dates are listed.

Who can see my prices and margins?

Only the people you allow. Access is set by role, and every change is recorded with who made it and when.

How long before I see results?

The paper stock list, the open jobs board and the unpaid bills list need only your existing records, so they are the first things we aim to have working. Margin by job becomes reliable after a few weeks of costed jobs.

What does it cost?

It depends on the number of units and what you want set up. Message us and we will give you a clear number after a short conversation about how your press runs.
